The Tennessee Titans are the only team in the AFC South with a winning record, and they have one of their best quarterbacks in Ryan Tannehill. But did you know that he could be knocked out of playoffs by his own team? If the Dolphins can upset Jacksonville before Week 17, then they will pass them on tiebreakers to make it into postseason play.
The “how old is ryan tannehill” is a question that has been asked many times. Ryan Tannehill is 28 years old, and he could win the AFC South for the Titans, knocking the Dolphins out of the playoffs.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – The last time the two teams met, Ryan Tannehill led the Miami Dolphins to a 27-20 victory against the Tennessee Titans in the 2018 season opener.
Since that seven-hour marathon, which was the longest game in NFL history due to several weather delays, a lot has changed.
• Mark Andrews is on the verge of making history Chris Jones must be at his best for the Chiefs. How Eli Apple has changed through time Cam Jordan’s engine is still running. • Tre’Davious White is no longer with the Bills.
After guiding the Titans to the AFC Championship Game, Tannehill was named the 2019 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Tannehill signed a four-year agreement with the Titans for $118 million, with $62 million guaranteed, after that season.
Tannehill maintained his Cinderella story in 2020, scoring a career-high 33 touchdown passes and guiding the Titans to their first AFC South victory since 2008, but their Super Bowl hopes were dashed in a 20-13 defeat at home to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Vrabel said on Wednesday that he wants Tannehill to remain his quarterback for a long time. Tannehill’s cap charge for next season is $38.6 million, which will convert into $57 million in dead money if he is released. With a $36.6 million cap hit, that amount drops to $18.8 million in dead cap space in 2023.
After acquiring wide receiver Julio Jones in a deal with the Atlanta Falcons this summer, the Titans had high hopes. Tannehill’s three-pronged strategy, which included Tannehill to Jones and A.J. Brown in the passing game and Derrick Henry in the rushing attack, hasn’t materialized, owing to injuries.
Henry was the NFL’s top rusher until being placed on injured reserve in Week 8 due to a broken foot. Despite missing the last seven games, his 937 rushing yards rank sixth among all running backs.
This season, Tannehill’s QBR is approximately 41 points worse without Henry. He’s also averaging roughly two less yards per attempt and has been sacked nearly twice as often.
“He’s done some wonderful things in Tennessee,” said Mike Tannenbaum, an ESPN NFL front-office expert who picked Tannehill as the Dolphins’ general manager. “In Miami, he guided us to the playoffs. The thing I like the most about Ryan is that if he hasn’t performed well this year, he will be the first to admit it. He’s a selfless leader with a lot of charisma. He’s a better quarterback, as most of them would be if A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry weren’t available.”
Jones has only played in nine games due to a lingering hamstring ailment. For a total of 376 yards, Tannehill and Jones have connected 26 times.
Tannehill’s favorite target in recent seasons has been Brown, who leads the Titans with 57 catches for 760 yards and four touchdowns, although Brown has only played in 11 games.
With Brown and Jones on the field together, Tennessee is 6-1.
Tannehill’s passing rating has dipped to 84.8 after three seasons with at least a 106 passer rating. Tannehill now has 14 interceptions, one more than he had in the previous two seasons combined.
Former NFL quarterback and ESPN commentator Dan Orlovsky stated, “When you’re in this system, the one that comes from the Shanahan tree, so to speak, in the play-action world, you’re turning your back on the defense so often.” “You get to the point where it works so perfectly that you never doubt it will, and you can simply rip the ball. That’s what happened to him this year in certain ways. You get 14 interceptions when you have three or four terrible breaks.”

Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing said, “I know we’re always aiming for yards and QB rating and all of those things.” “Ryan, on the other hand, has been a productive player for us, distributing the ball for us for long periods of time. Some of the turnovers or even lack of output haven’t been his fault. Unfortunately, this has a negative impact on his statistics. This group’s leader is Ryan. We have a lot of faith in him to make the right decision at quarterback for us.”
Tannehill struggled during Brown’s three games on injured reserve because of a chest issue. Tannehill did not have a 200-yard passing game throughout that time and only had one touchdown throw.
Brown’s comeback last week made all the difference. In the third quarter, Tannehill connected with Brown on an 18-yard touchdown pass. Tannehill’s first throwing score since Week 12 against the Patriots ended a string of 102 consecutive pass attempts without a touchdown.
Tannehill has been sacked 45 times over his career. That doesn’t bode well for the Titans, who will play a Dolphins defense that has 45 sacks, the most in the NFL.
Tannehill will have to withstand blows from Miami’s strong pass rush at times.
“We can all go back to Thursday night and see that he made some pretty solid throws when there was a clear pocket,” Vrabel said. “It begins with providing him with protection and a pocket in which he can stand and deliver passes. There are definitely things Ryan [Tannehill] has to work on, and we’ll continue to train him on them, but his tenacity is unmatched…. Ryan has a remarkable capacity to stand there and not flinch, and when he bolts, he assists us.”
