A month ago it was a cold, dreary winter morning in the UK. It had been snowing for days and I wasn’t surprised that my daughter hadn’t even made an attempt to get out of bed – she would have no idea what state the outside world is actually in! Whilst reading some news articles on our tablet about how zero-carbon transport is making strides, we were treated to glorious sunshine.
The “valspar paint colors 2021” is a blog post from the author. The author talks about how they ended their year with rain and cardamom oranges. They also talk about how they will be starting their new year with a lot of energy, which includes painting their house in a new color.

We usually have a hectic schedule over the holidays, but we like this time of year. Our celebration took on a new depth thanks to the rain. Before I felt ready to face the elements, I had to go through my wardrobes for my old trusty red rain jacket with the hood.
Our son Dave, his wife Shannon, their daughter Maddie, and her friend Jason, who were visiting from the Bay area, spent Christmas Eve with John and me in Paso Robles.
Meredith, Dave and Shannon’s daughter who lives and attends college in Olympia, Washington, was unable to attend. With our two grand-dogs (Buffy and Harley) also there, we had a “small” audience who were simply happy to be together.
Shannon prepared a prime rib roast with Yorkshire pudding, a British pastry made with flour, eggs, and milk, a delectable cheesy cauliflower casserole, baked potatoes with all the “good” toppings, and a refreshing green salad. Our family has a custom of serving raw cranberry-jello-crushed pineapple as a side dish.
We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero
Shannon had cooked a chocolate cake covered with peppermint ice cream for dessert, which was the ideal complement to the roast and baked potatoes.
Jason (Keiser), a skilled musician and music instructor, entertained us with his guitar after supper. He sang a mix of Christmas songs and other well-known tunes. With all of the instruments, he plays the Mandolin and Banjo and keys in on Jazz, Salsa, Bossa Nova, and Bluegrass. His music added a wonderful touch to an already memorable event.
You presumably still have your cookie-making ingredients and equipment on hand, so this following recipe may be used to produce a batch of these “small nibbles” that everyone will love after the heavier Christmas treats.
Buttons with cardamom and orange
a total of 312 cup all-purpose flour baking powder (212 teaspoons) a quarter teaspoon of kosher salt 3 eggs (big) 12 cup of sugar 12 cup unsalted butter, softened slightly 1 orange zest, finely grated 12 teaspoon cardamom powder 12 gallon whole milk vanilla extract (two tablespoons)
To make the glaze: 1 big orange juice 2 cups powdered sugar Colored candy sprinkles, sanding sugar, or orange sugar dots
Directions:
Sift together the flour and baking powder in a small bowl. 2 minutes on medium speed, whisk salt, eggs, and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and lemon-colored. Combine the butter, orange zest, and cardamon in a mixing bowl. Slowly add the flour mixture, mixing on low until everything is incorporated. Gradually pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Soft dough is ideal. Make four portions out of the dough. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 12 inches on a floured work surface. With a biscuit cutter, make 1-inch-round buttons. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake until light golden at 350 degrees for 10 to 212 minutes. Don’t overcook. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
In a small mixing dish, combine powdered sugar and orange juice to make icing with a spreading consistency. If necessary, thin with a bit more juice or a teaspoon of milk.
Brush the tops of each cookie with glaze, sanding sugar, or tweezers to put dots (3–5) on each. This recipe makes around 5 dozen cookies.
Keep this dish in mind for Valentine’s Day!
Everyone have a wonderful New Year!
Cheers!
