DeMar DeRozan has strong words for Lakers’ Russell Westbrook, calling him a “hater” who hates when people win. The Raptors’ guard talked to ESPN about the NBA star’s recent comments on Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

The Los Angeles Lakers were connected to a number of famous players throughout the summer. DeMar DeRozan was one of the names that kept coming up. The four-time All-Star is a native of Los Angeles and seemed to be a natural fit for the squad. In fact, he was very certain he would be joining his local club.
He played his debut game with the Chicago Bulls against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. He got the opportunity to delve into why he didn’t sign with the organization throughout the summer.
“I had the impression that coming to the Lakers was a done thing and that we’d sort it out.” DeRozan told Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, “I was going to return home.” “It simply didn’t work out on the business side of things.” There were a few things that didn’t line up. It didn’t turn out to be a good idea. It’s simply a part of doing business and playing the game. Chicago was unquestionably my next choice. So, in retrospect, that was a good decision.
“However, motivation is constantly present. It might just be to return home and compete against teams you grew up watching in front of friends and family. You have a lot of different motives, and you attempt to put that energy into the game. I feel that in every game, but especially when you’re playing in your hometown, you want to perform well and put on a nice display.”
DeRozan scored 38 points to lead the Spurs to a 121-103 victory against the Lakers.

DeRozan Talks About The Lakers Choosing Westbrook Over Him

DeRozan may be on the squad right now if the Lakers hadn’t traded for Russell Westbrook. It’s easy to see why the team made the decision they did based on their previous achievements. DeRozan has never been an MVP or a cultural figure in the same way that Westbrook has. Despite his early season problems, he knows why the Lakers selected him and has chosen not to criticize the franchise.
DeRozan told Yahoo Sports, “Nah, Russ is a Hall of Fame player.” “It’s difficult to pass on a guy of that quality. I can’t speak for the Lakers, but they did what they believed was in their best interests. And they have my respect. There are no harsh feelings. There’s no ill will, but I simply see it as part of the game. A transaction is never complete until it is completed. That is something I discovered. It simply wasn’t meant to be. “I’m simply glad to be in Chicago.”
Is LeBron James the Right Player for the Lakers?
Based on this season’s early performances, there’s little doubt that DeRozan has performed better than Westbrook. He’s averaging 26.9 points per game on 51.0 percent shooting, compared to 19.4 points per game on 42.7 percent shooting for Westbrook. The Bulls have a 10-game winning streak, while the Lakers have an 8-7 record.
However, the Lakers have been without LeBron James for the most of the season due to injury, while the Bulls have been quite healthy. It’s way too early in the season for the Lakers to tell whether Westbrook was a bad choice. As we witnessed with the Washington Wizards last season, it might take time for him to acclimatize to a new club. DeRozan has been fantastic for the Bulls, but he’s most certainly reached his peak with them. Westbrook still has a long way to go with the Lakers before reaching his ultimate potential.
