The best BBQ sauce and rubs according to chefs.

The meat mitch bbq sauce review is a blog post that includes the best BBQ sauces and rubs according to chefs.

CNN —

Scott Thomas is a self-proclaimed “barbecue rub addict.” “If you put me within 100 miles of a grilling/barbecue shop, I’ll find my way in and almost always spend $100,” says The Grillin’ Fools blogger. “In my pantry, I have a whole wall devoted to rubs and sauces, from floor to ceiling. It’s so densely packed that if I bring any more home, my wife will demand that I toss it away. Fortunately, she hasn’t yet discovered my backup stash.”

We’ve all been there. Now that summer has here, it’s the ideal time to stock up on goods for your next outdoor barbeque. To get you started, we spoke with three barbecue experts: Thomas, from St. Louis; Adrian Miller, author of “Black Smoke: African Americans and the United States of Barbecue”; and Kita Roberts, who has a rub collaboration with Spiceology and runs the Girl Carnivore food blog, which focuses on all things meat.

It’s time to fire up the grill, get your favorite chicken, pig, steak, fish, and vegetables ready, and get ready to get heated up with these suggested barbecue rubs and sauces that will elevate your dinner to new heights. Is anybody hungry?

Gates Bar-B-Q ‘Original Classic’ Sauce ($17.69; amazon.com; originally $19.35)

“Original Classic” Sauce from Gates Bar-B-Q

This is Miller’s all-time favorite store-bought barbecue sauce. “Gates is one of Kansas City’s legendary African American-owned barbecue restaurants,” he adds. “They create a tomato-based sauce that isn’t too thick and has a good tangy-sweet balance.”

3-Pack of Old Arthur’s Spicy BBQ Sauce ($29.40; amazon.com)

Miller like Old Arthur’s hot and spicy sauce when he wants something spicier. He claims, “‘Old Arthur Watts was born an enslaved African American in 1837.” “He went on to become a well-known barbecue chef later in life, and his descendants are carrying on his tradition. This somewhat sweet tomato-based sauce burns slowly and steadily without overpowering your taste buds.”

4-Pack of Head Country Barbecue Sauce ($26.44, originally $28.87; amazon.com)

“Found pretty much everywhere throughout the nation, Head Country has a fantastic arsenal of sauces, from chipotle — which is excellent on Instant Pot chicken for tacos — to apple habanero, which gives just the perfect amount of heat to smoked Brussels sprouts,” Roberts explains. “It’s not too hot, not too watery, and it forms a velvety rich coating on the dish. I always have a selection of their complete range in my pantry, and they are my go-to for hosting requirements. They’ve just released a sugar-free keto-friendly barbecue sauce, which is fantastic on shrimp.”

Apple Habanero, Original, Hickory Smoke, and Hot & Spicy are included in this package.

Three-Pack of Cowboy Charcoal Prairie Fire Sauce ($25.67; amazon.com)

“When I really want to spice things up, I like to throw wings in it or brush it over burgers,” Roberts adds. “It pours out of the bottle extremely thick and has just the right amount of heat for those who can take it.”

BBQ Sauce by Meat Mitch Whomp! ($14.99; amazon.com)

Thomas says Whomp! as a first-place winner at the 2020 National Barbecue & Grilling Association Awards of Excellence. is a staple in his pantry and refrigerator. “It’s really a great sauce all around,” he adds.

4-Pack of Blues Hog BBQ Sauce Variety ($14.99; amazon.com)

According to Thomas, “the whole range of sauces is extremely excellent and a staple on the competition circuit where contestants are only guaranteed one taste from the judges.” “They often have a second taste when they utilize Blues Hog.”

With this variety pack, you may try four different flavors: Original BBQ, Tennessee Red, Champions Blend, and Smokey Mountain.

Brush On Steak Sauce by Andria ($14.99; amazon.com)

“This is from Illinois, right over the river from St. Louis, and is often mistaken with steak sauces, which are used to dip cooked steaks into to disguise the taste of substandard meat or add moisture to an overcooked or dry steak,” Thomas explains. “However, Andria’s is not about that. I’ve been using it as a marinade and basting sauce for almost three decades. Brush it on while the steak is cooking to see how addicting it is. It is also a favorite of presidents. Every year for decades, the White House has ordered a case of Andria’s.”

Black Smoke Spice Set from Spice Shop with a Kick ($29.99; savoryspiceshop.com)

The Black Smoke Spice Collection was created by Miller in collaboration with Savory Spice Company (the set contains five half-cup bags, including Black Smoke Seasoning, Beaumont BBQ Rub, Tsire West African Spice, Jamaican Jerk Seasoning and Red Rocks Hickory Smoke Seasoning).

“The trademark Black Smoke Seasoning is based on the recipe of John Frank Garth, a renowned barbecuer in my hometown of Denver, Colorado,” he explains. “It’s a versatile rub that may be used on any meat or vegetable. The collection also includes a Beaumont BBQ Rub, which pays homage to east Texas’ Creole-influenced barbeque. It’s a great balance of spiciness and sweetness.”

Spiceology Pork Rub ($25.49; amazon.com) by Christie Vanover

When it comes to rubs, Roberts recommends Christie Vanover’s award-winning “Girls Can Grill” collection of chicken, brisket, and hog rubs. She adds, “They’re a great foundation for all of your summer barbecues when meat is king on the grill.” “Each has been carefully tested for success and is the ideal mix of heat, spice, and blend.”

To add a rich component to anything from a traditional steak to grilled mushrooms, she suggests mixing Vanover’s brisket rub with her own Girl Carnivore Ooomami powder. “On these grilled short ribs, the combination of Girls Can Grill BK and Girl Carnivore Ooomami was highlighted, and it works as a dynamic pair for any cut of beef. There’s almost nothing delicious that Ooomami can’t be used as a foundation to really enhance the pleasure – it’s extremely flexible, from burgers to aiolis.”

Spiceology Over Easy Egg and Everything Seasoning ($14.95; amazon.com) by Girl Carnivore

Spice rubs are frequently too heavy and hot, according to Roberts, but her Over Easy, a collaboration with Spiceology, is a light blend of bright citrus, fresh herbs, and a touch of pepper. She uses it on grilled potatoes and other vegetables in addition to eggs, but she recommends combining it with Garlic Junkie, from Adam McKenzie of “This Jew Can Que,” also in conjunction with Spiceology, for grilled fish, artichokes, or pork chops.

Thomas also extols the virtues of Girl Carnivore’s egg spice rub. “I was dubious as someone who loves egg yolk in all of its ooey, gooey, golden glory,” he adds. “I can no longer order eggs for breakfast unless I bring a little amount of this rub with me.”

South American Variety Pack by Derek Wolf for Spiceology ($24.99; spiceology.com)

Spiceology

Spiceology’s South American Variety Pack was created by Derek Wolf.

“Derek Wolf of Over the Fire Cooking has a wonderful collection of spices strongly inspired by the South American churrasco method of grilling, which he highlights in his recently published cookbook ‘Food by Fire,’” Roberts adds. She goes on to say that the mixes are ideal for show-stopping meals like picanha, which she describes as “a feast like you would get at the Brazilian-style steakhouses when rubbed with the Gaucho spice and slow-roasted.”

Steak Seasoning by Jack Daniel’s ($9; amazon.com; originally $10)

This coarse-grind steakhouse-style mix for coating red meat is a favorite of Roberts’. It’s a traditional option with a peppery taste evocative of places where meat and potatoes rule supreme, she adds, from lamb tenderloin to crusting a tomahawk steak.

DB180 All-Purpose Seasoning Rub by Dead Bird BBQ ($15.95, originally $17.95; amazon.com)

“Despite the fact that the moniker DB stands for Dead Bird and the title has no mention of meat, this is my go-to steak rub,” Thomas adds. “It’s not an overwhelming rub that takes away from the taste of the steak; rather, it complements it.”

Barbecue at the Church Honey Pecan Rub by Deez Nuts ($14.99; amazon.com) is a honey pecan rub made by Meat Church.

This rub, according to Thomas, is the ideal blend of clever marketing and excellent taste. “This massage is a hit with my teenage sons,” he adds. “Partly because it makes them laugh when they say it, and partly because it has a fantastic flavor.”

($16.99; walmart.com) White Label BBQ Rub and Seasoning by Heavy Smoke

“This rub was created on the competition circuit and has won many awards,” Thomas explains. “It’s fantastic on pork, but it’ll go with just about any protein.”
